Solar4Schools

Solar4Schools is Solarcentury's programme to deliver HALF PRICE solar photovoltaics to all types of educational buildings across the UK. As a framework supplier under the Government's Low Carbon Buildings programme we have worked hard to drive down the cost of solar for schools.

To help reduce the cost of solar we have developed a standardised 4kWp system, which is being offered at approximately £20,000. Schools can apply for a single system or a multiple of 4kWp systems and BERR (formerly DTI) will cover 50% of the cost. Each system has the potential to save nearly two tonnes of carbon dioxide from being emitted into the atmosphere each year.

In addition Solarcentury provide each of the successful schools with a free activity-based educational pack. The bespoke pack is intended to help educate and inform pupils about the challenge of climate change, and to highlight the importance of efficient energy use and renewable energy. Resources will include national curriculum lesson plans for key stages one to four on climate change, global warming, renewable and solar energy, PV cells and motors for children to wire up, as well as a wall chart on solar photovoltaic energy.
