The CompleteSolarRoof wins Interbuild awards

Renewable energy has been endorsed by the British building sector as our Complete Solar Roof wins 'best product for the building envelope' and the 'best overall product' awards at the construction industry's showcase exhibition, Interbuild 2006.

Our self-designed, fully-integrated solar roof is a world first - a unique, patented combination of solar thermal and solar photovoltaic tiles, replacing conventional roofing tiles to generate hot water and electricity, even in cloudy conditions.

The roof, which does not require planning permission, significantly reduces household energy bills. A typical system will generate two thirds of the hot water and half the electricity required to run a three-bedroom home.

Head judge and Construction Products Association chief executive, Michael Ankers said: "Solarcentury has been leading the way in the use of solar power in building. It wins the award because of continuous improvement and innovation."

The Complete Solar Roof can be installed by any reputable contractor using traditional methods of construction and integrated into the existing hot water system and power supply by a regular plumber and electrician.

Domestic installations are underway at the St James 'enviro-house' development at Kennet Island in Reading and Barratt Homes' Buckshaw View project in Chorley, Lancashire.

Solarcentury design engineer, Martin Berry adds: "The new solar tiles have exactly the same appearance as common UK rooftiles. They combine a tried and tested architectural elegance with energy efficiency, turning a home into an individual and silent emissions-free power station."
