'We Support Solar' photography competition winners

The brief was to take a photograph that conveys the beauty and potential of light in the UK.

From a landscape with a cloudy sunrise, or light glistening on window, to a setting sun reflected in a water droplet, any subject, anywhere was suitable...

The competition received over 500 entries in this, its first year.

Winners:

1st: Jonathan Littlejohn 'The Dawn Commute'

Harry Cory Wright, Landscape Photographer: "It has a dignity to it, it's well executed and is full of the notions of what might be ahead rather than what has been in the past. It is sassy too well balanced and all the things a good picture should be. What makes it outstanding however is that all these qualities are centred around the concept of the light itself. The distance, depth and whole meaning of the picture is given a richness by the very quality of daylight that we are looking for in this competition."

Andy Bodycombe, Freelance Photojournalist: "I love this one! I love pictures that have hidden layers and that reveal something new each time you look at them and this one certainly has that quality. I'm still straining to see through the distant mist . . . Is that a lake or pond ? What's hiding behind the knobbly tree on the right ? Is the figure on the left known to the photographer? The light's wonderful and touching so many things in this image."

2nd: Rozalind Williams 'Sunshine Blur'

3rd: Marie Kay Forster 'Reaching for Sunlight'

The prizes include SANYO’s latest High Definition Dual Camcorders, a Wattson energy meter, tickets to the Eden Project and London Duck Tour, and a chance to be exhibited at The Big Chill Festival this summer! Many thanks to the supporters who have provided prizes for the competition.

'We Support Solar' is a network of companies, NGOs and individuals who want solar power to be an important part of the renewable energy mix in the UK. It includes Solarcentury and is supported by over 250 MP's, hundreds of business and even the band the Klaxons!

It is pushing for an effective Feed-in tariff for solar power - this would mean that from next year you would be paid 3-4 times as much for generating clean energy on your roof than at present. It's a great way of incentivising people to take clean energy generation into their own hands and has been successful throughout Europe. Join in support and ask your MP to sign Early Day Motion 689 for an effective Feed-in Tariff for solar energy in the UK.
