If all housing association properties had a solar photovoltaic (PV) system, which can generate 2,100 units of electricity a year, they could earn an income of around £20 thousand per home over 25 years and pass on thousands of pounds of electricity savings to tenants - many of whom are suffering from fuel poverty. We win CSR Project of the Year Award
We're very pleased to announce that we have been awarded the Corporate Social Responsibility Project of the Year at the Charity Times Awards 2009 for our partnership with SolarAid. The judging panel described the partnership as one of excellence and one ‘whose mutual benefits were obvious'. Basically, it's because we love Solar Aid! This is a huge honour, not least because of the high calibre of the fellow nominees. The other short listed projects were: Action against Hunger / Carluccio’s, British Forces Foundation / British Airways and CAN and Panasonic Europe. Our Executive Chairman of Solarcentury, Jeremy Leggett, saw a great need for the use of solar energy as a means of poverty alleviation and carbon reduction worldwide. In 2005 we donated 5% of our profits, amounting to £35,000, to found SolarAid. Solarcentury pledged to donate the same percentage of future profits.
