Solarcentury brings model solar city to Ecobuild

Solarcentury at the world’s biggest event for sustainable design, construction and the built environment, at Earls Court.

From Tuesday 2nd to Thursday 4th March, Solarcentury will give visitors the first ever chance to see a live model city with hands-on solar power solutions, in the ‘Solar Hub’ at Ecobuild.

Solarcentury is working in partnership with the world’s leading solar providers, in order to give Ecobuild visitors a unique opportunity to experiment with working solar solutions and witness the many ways in which they can be seamlessly integrated into both residential and commercial buildings. Across four days, the UK’s most forward thinking architects, engineers and building product designers throughout Ecobuild will demonstrate how they’re working to transform the UK’s buildings into intelligent, low carbon spaces of the future. Solar power sits at the helm of these initiatives, with the Government announcing its ambition of making one in ten UK homes powered by small scale renewables within the next decade.

Solar Hub will also demonstrate the ways in which homeowners, communities and industries can now make money by creating their own energy. Following new ‘Feed-in Tariff’ legislation, UK homeowners making electricity from solar power will be able to generate savings and income of around £1,000 a year for 25 years, in an average household, by creating free electricity during the day and selling unused power back to the grid. The opportunities for commercial benefits are exponential.

Derry Newman, CEO, Solarcentury said: “The Solar Hub is the ideal place to see solar innovation in sustainable building contexts. Whether you want to build your own home, a whole development, or simply understand more about the future of smart, clean technology including solar power, these are the three days to find the very best ideas for low carbon design.”

Profiling over 1,000 exhibitors and in anticipation of a repeat of last years 34,617 visitors, Ecobuild also offers a ‘design while you wait, zero carbon house’ thanks to architect Bill Dunster’s RuralZED initiative. For inspiration, ‘The Nottingham House’, an innovative solar powered zero carbon home, will be on show en route to the first ‘International Solar Decathlon’ competition in Madrid in June. And for those more interested in adapting their home, the Great British Refurb ‘Home of the Future’ winner, Will Homoky, will be speaking about his experience of getting a £23,000 eco refurb for his Bristol home earlier this year including solar power provided by Solarcentury.

The race is now on to find the best low carbon solutions and listen to those who have experience in both designing and living in the buildings for the future. Solarcentury at Ecobuild 2010 will showcase the future of solar power in today’s world.
